October 2017 is the 500th anniversary of the start reformation; that revolutionary period in Europe’s history when the basic truths of the gospel we re-discovered and reclaimed. Luther, Calvin and other men of God set the church ablaze with their preaching of justification by faith and God’s amazing grace. It was a time of struggle and suffering, but it transformed the spiritual landscape of Europe, and its consequences echo down through history even to our own day.
We will be marking this significant anniversary at St Peter’s by focusing on the five core truths of the reformation (known as the solas) over five Sundays in October and November. We will also have a chance to learn more about why the reformation matters at a special evening event in early November:
Sunday 8th October: Scripture Alone!
Sunday 15th October: Faith Alone!
Sunday 22nd October: Grace Alone!
Sunday 29th October: In Christ Alone!!
Sunday 5th November: Glory To God Alone!
Tuesday 7th November at 7.30pm: What is the Reformation and does it still matter today?
